Meet the Maker: Lipika Bansal
‘My name is Lipika Bansal and I am a social designer. I want to shed a light on certain societal issues hoping to make changes. One of my first projects was in India, in a working class neighborhood in New Delhi. Together with a group of women responsible for the waterworks in that neighborhood I researched how they take in consideration the relationship between water and health. I called them water managers as they fulfilled a very purposeful task, even though the work is not regarded as that. Together we collected their work and experience. We made exhibitions and started conversations with other women in the community. This bettered the position of the water managers and gave them more confidence. Other people in the community became aware of the importance of the water managers, who were mostly young women. The water managers also reconsidered their own work, which created more awareness.’
