Meet the Maker: Jasmijn Taken

‘My name is Jasmijn Taken and I graduated in 2018 as Fashion Designer at the University of Arts in Utrecht (HKU). The past two years I have been freelancing and working on different projects and collections. My most recent unisex collection is called ODE AAN OMA (ODE TO GRANDMA) and is a collaboration with fellow designers Mirte Luijmes and Debbie Jellema. Curtains, cloths of textile, wool, yarns, pretty much everything is recycled; the entire collection is made out of donated and recycled materials. The collections is inspired by our grandmothers and their crafts. As a collective we all bring in our own input to ODE AAN OMA, which we got to show at the Fashion Clash Festival in Maastricht and during EEP in Sarajevo, Bosnia.’

What can Crafts Council do for you?

‘Ever since I graduated I have noticed the importance of network for your career and future. By following a course at De Amsterdamse Steek I got in touch with Crafts Council. A very valuable connection! In the future I hope to get in touch with more people and who knows what that will bring.’
