Wicker Nursing Chair

Unknown Maker

The nursing chair is a low wicker chair used for the care of an infant. The nurse caring for the child used the chair when feeding or swaddling. It has a high back to protect the child from draughts and wood fires. If the chair was too close to the fire the child could become ‘heetgebakerd’, which is a saying still used in Dutch, meaning hot-tempered.
