Hyunjee Jung

Hyunjee Jung usually looks at materials through their visual qualities, textures, surfaces, and colours. Her textile works are based on reinterpreting traditional techniques and materials in a contemporary way. They are made with Korean traditional silk fabric and also inspired by Bojagi which is one of the Korean traditional textile crafts. The projects are inspired by an imaginary space and objects from her dreams as well as the recombination of things that she encounters from ordinary life. Playful colours and forms appear in the drawing, and architectal elements like bricks, tiles, stairs, and windows are constructed with her own intuition. In the end, she constructs rich compositions that combine both 3D and 2D visual languages into a collage of different materials interacting with different colours and forms.
