Bernard Heesen is a glass artist. He lives and works in the Dutch glass city: Leerdam. Originally he was trained as an architect but soon he followed his father (Willem Heesen) footsteps as a well-known artist in the glass studio ‘De Oude Horn’. Within the world of glass art he is considered an anarchist. Heesen investigates the properties of glass by pushing the borders and researching the limits of technical possibilities. Heesen is not working according a preconceived plan or design, but he is guided by the erratic nature of liquid glass. During the creative process of making an object he lets chance to contribute to the form and expression of the product. Heesen is not caught up by an aesthetic sense or an early glass tradition. As a result, he is an inspiration for the young generation of glassmakers.
