Birgit Doesburg is a gold- and silversmith and member of the Bosche guild for goldsmiths since 2010. In her own studio in ‘s-Hertogenbosch she designs jewelry and objects for clients and practices, as one of the few goldsmiths in the Netherlands, a labor-intensive technique “Mokume-gane” (wood grain metal), an ancient Japanese welding technique. Layers of different metals are welded together by means of pressure and temperature. With this technique organic lines and patterns originate in the material which can be merged into a piece of jewelry or object. Because the effect of layers establishes a very fascinating pattern, Birgit also experiments and also designs jewelry with felt and fimo clay.
She also organizes courses and workshops in jewelry.
