Delfts Plaisier

Wilma Plaisier is a master painter and designer of the famous Delft blue. Through her work she wants to show the beauty and craftsmanship in a contemporary way. This particular technique makes it possible to make an infinite number of shades with one colour, from almost black to an almost translucent blue. It is even possible to recreate intricate paintings by artists such as Rembrandt.

Modernity, according Plaisier, is not reducing the Delft blue painting cause then the Delftware will loose its greatest strength and enchantment. With her work, she wants to emphasize this. Plaisier innovates in shapes, pattern, subject and function. So she tries to approach Delftware from other sources of inspiration which make the patterns contemporary. Together with ceramists she is working on optimizing the colours, developing new technologies and reinventing existing technologies.
